Cubivore

Cubivore: Survival of the Fittest is an RPG/survival game that has been described as one of the most peculiar video games of all time.

In the "Wilderness" of Cubivores (creatures rendered out of polygons and shapes), you must rise up the food chain in order to save the wilderness from being destroyed by the evil Killer Cubivore and his goons. Gamers navigate through the world with the goal of becoming powerful enough to confront the Killer Cubivore and taking your rightful seat on the throne as King of the Cubivores. The player must use stealth and cunning to defeat the enemies on their quest. The game can also get quite cryptic towards the end, as well.

The game focuses heavily on mutations, which grants the player abilities depending on color and shape. Evolution is the key to winning Cubivore; as you grow more powerful, enemies you could not previously defeat become easier to rip apart. In fact, this element seems to be heavily influenced from the Katamari series.

Another feature the game includes is mating, where you can attract females to reproduce with. After this happens, your Cubivore dies and you must continue the game as one of its offspring. Mating helps grant your character new abilities, features, evolutions and more.

Rarity[]

Because Nintendo did not believe Cubivore: Survival of the Fittest would appeal to a Western audience, it barely came out in North America at all. In fact, if not for the company Atlus, it would not have seen release outside of Japan in the first place.

Due to the limited number of copies, the game can go for over $400 when complete in box.
